Conquer the Entrepreneur's Kryptonite: Simple Strategic Planning for You and Your Business Kindle Edition
Do you make plans that never get implemented? Are they overly complicated and fail because you simply can't stop planning until it’s perfect? Or do you refuse to plan because you care only about getting things done, but end up failing and causing chaos for those closest to you (spouse, partners, teammates, etc.)? Do you end up reworking projects instead of accomplishing your goals?
Let's find the happy middle ground—the sweet spot that combines planning and action! It's sure to be more than scribbles on a napkin, but far less than an overstuffed binder.
What is it that you want to achieve? Whatever it is, it’s not going to be easy. Not if it’s something BIG worth doing right.
But it can be made easier, and in doing so, make it look like it was easy to anyone who didn’t see the blood and sweat you poured into your idea.
Let’s get to work!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2014Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseFor the first time since I started my business (almost 6 years ago now!) I have an action plan for my business written down, organized and goals listed WITH dates for 2014.
James' easy to read, step-by-step process is exactly what I needed to help me take all the ideas and goals that have been running through my head - and posted on notes all over my desk and computer - and put them down into an action plan.
More important is that in going through the book (and as a previous reviewer said - it's more like my workbook with all the notes I've made in my book) the action plan reflects my vision, mission and my core values which will help me stay motivated and moving forward.
I'm actually excited for the new year and the opportunities coming my way.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2013Format: KindleIncreasingly, today's leaders are called to be entrepreneurs: for a business to launch or expand profitably, for a nonprofit to make a bigger impact without breaking the bank, etc.
The kryptonite that threatens to kill the dreams of every entrepreneur is strategic planning. Many aspiring entrepreneurs create no plan and try shooting from the hip, so effort and resources are wasted or unfocused. Others get bogged down in a too-detailed planning process, and the plan never gets executed.
The antidote for this kryptonite is simple strategic planning. In this book, James Woosley, a seasoned planner with experience in the military, systems project management for major corporations, and business coaching for hundreds of businesses, explains the concept he has taught for years to many entreprenuers. Rather than the traditional approach of a business plan or a detailed GANTT chart, Woosley provides a streamlined approach that is more practical and action-oriented. The Simple Strategic Plan (SSP) is a step-by-step process for taking an idea putting it into action, for both profit and purpose.
This could have been a very dry book, but Woosley keeps it fun with plenty of real-life illustrations and just the right amount of cape-and-tights stories.
Although it is targeted especially for a business start up, this book will be helpful for those in organizations of any size who need to be more entrepreneurial. Conquer your kryptonite and be a superhero!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2013Format: PaperbackI've read a ton of business, entrepreneurial, live-a-better-life, sales & marketing, self-help books. A very few have made it to the "keeper" list (Dave Ramsey, Donald Miller, Mark Patterson, Ann Voskamp). The mark of a great book is how marked up it is, and my copy of this book is a WRECK!
This has been a life-changing book for me. It is an entertaining, easy read - full of great wisdom, but without pretentious & impossible advice. Practical steps are outlined in a simple, 'baby-steps' format, very similar to Dave Ramsey's early "Financial Peace" book. I used this like a workbook; highlighting, scrawling notes in the margin, & completing the questions & steps along the way right there in the (small) space provided.
As I worked thru Woosley's process in this book, I was hit again & again with "aha!" moments, much like the common-sense, simple, & practical thought-transformation I got from Dave Ramsey's books. Just like Dave's material, it's not rocket-science; Woosley simply presents & packages what we all know we ought to do but don't, into a process we can actually accomplish!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2014Format: PaperbackThis book helps you reach that happy middle ground between planning and action. The entrepreneur's kryptonite is improper planning - the author says he helps you put it in a lead box. That cracked me up - I laughed a lot while reading this book. I love how the author weaves in his story and the stories of people he knows along with some of the greats to make his points about the importance of planning. The book gives you the exact steps, a format and the motivation to put together a great plan and put the kryptonite in a lead box. A great, actionable book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2015Format: PaperbackJames' writing comes from the heart. He has fought his Kryptonite, and he's winning! Not only that, my business is CONSIDERABLY improved after reading "Conquer Your Kryptonite". He has put me on high alert for my weaknesses, led me to strengthen those areas susceptible to the evil space stone, and encouraged me as I've begun to conquer those areas in which I've given too much destructive power in my life!
Thanks Mr. Woosley, for your "coach in a book"
